French Pediatric ER surveillance reports > 70% reduction of ER visits for common cold, otitis media and gastroenteritis visists within 1 week of the lockdown, but not for other infections (UTI)

First RCT evaluating SARS-CoV-2 post-exposure prophylaxis with hydroxychoroquine. Among 821 participants who had high or moderate risk exposure to a confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infected person, 12% developed COVID-compatible illness in the treatment arm, and 14% in the placebo arm (no statistical difference: P=0.35). Adverse events were more common in the treatment arm but there were no cardiac adverse events. Limitations include the lack of confirmation of outcome and suboptimal adherence to intervention.

This international, multicentre, cohort study at 235 hospitals in 24 countries included all patients undergoing surgery who had SARS-CoV-2 infection confirmed within 7 days before or 30 days after surgery. This analysis includes 1128 patients who had surgery between Jan 1 and March 31, 2020. SARS-CoV-2 infection was confirmed preoperatively in 26·1% patients. 30-day mortality was 23·8%. Pulmonary complications occurred in 51·2% patients; 30-day mortality in these patients was 38·0%, accounting for 82·6% of all deaths.

Obesity, high oxygen requirements, elevated CRP, elevated D-dimer, and rising D-dimer over time are risk factors for pulmonary embolism in COVID-19 patients according to this study where pulmonary embolism was diagnosed on CTA in 22% of 328 patients.

This article provides further evidence to the growing body of literature on the association between COVID-19 and pulmonary embolism. The authors report 23 cases of pulmonary artery embolism on CTA in their population of 100 COVID-19 patients.

Case series from 94 COVID-19 cases in 643 hemodialysis patients in four dialysis facilities in northern italy. Median age was 72 years, hypertension was present in 94% and diabetes mellitus in 43% of cases. Cough, Dyspnoea and Myalgia were the most frequent symptoms. Overall mortality was 29%. As expected, mortality was highest in patients requiring, hospitalisation, ICU and ventilation.

Case series of renal involvement in 6449 patients admitted with COVID-19 to the community hospitals in metropolitan New York. Acute kidney Injury (AKI) occurs early and in temporal association with respiratory failure and is associated with a poor prognosis.
